Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and have a Kigali city tour

Our company professional guide will greet you and then will take a briefing about your safari. You will then enjoy a Kigali city tour, this is Rwanda’s capital city that was named in 1907 by Dr. Richard Kandat, who was the first colonial resident governor of Rwanda. It’s the main administrative and economic Centre of Rwanda. It’s surrounded by the lush hills of green, it’s the cleanest and safest city with in the region. Kigali’s face is her fortune: a beauty from which its name is derived. There are other contributing factors, it’s also a city that delights the minds as well as the eye of any visitor and is also a city were the past lives with the present.

On this tour, you will have the chance to view the following

  • Visit the 1994 Gisozi Genocide Memorial site
  • Tour the artisan shopping Centre to view and also buy the local arts and crafts
  • Visit the Kigali Museum and then learn the history of Kigali and Rwanda’s pre-colonial and colonial periods as well as the colonial masters in Rwanda
  • Visit the whole city and see, first hand, the post genocide development and expansion of Kigali

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National park and have a game drive in the evening

Drive to Akagera national park, as you pass through Rwanda Rwanda’s phenomenal land scape and the living lifestyles. You check in at Akagera Game Lodge and then rest for the evening, you will continue with a southern game drive alongside Lake Ihema circuit. There are many animals that can be seen that include; giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, zebras, crocodiles and many more mammal species. It’s known as one of the most of the scenic savannahs in East Africa, the game drive in the Akagera also gives you an opportunity to view the gentle hills that blend beautifully with the lowland swamps and the water bodies.

On this day, we shall give you a choice of value added activities from the following:

  • The evening walk around the hotel where you can view many bird species
  • Participating in the day to day local pastrol lifestyle.
  • Performance on the ecology of the Akagera ecosystem and the conservation efforts which include; the co existent dynamics between the local people and the wildlife.

Day 3: Have a northern game drive and then transfer to Butare via Kigali

So early in the morning, have a game drive that swill start with a beautiful sunrise and early morning bird calls. You get to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the land scape through the northern circuit were you will see the crocodiles, hippos and more wildlife than on the lake Circuit. Transfer to Kigali for a quick lunch and then on to Butare , the original capital and the intellectual Centre of Rwanda. Go through the magnificent hills and the cultivated countryside, we will stop along the way and visit the famous King’s palace in Nyanza that offers the visitors a window into pre-colonial Rwandan history. And for those who are interested, we can also visit the art museum at the Rwesero Nyanza.


Day 4: Drive to Nyungwe Forest National park

The Morning will start with a visit to the National Museum of Rwanda, which provides you with a deeper insight into the Rwandan history and the culture.we then continue to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Nyungwe is also the only destination in the world where you can see over 13 species in a single location. These include; the blue monkeys, chimps, L’Hoest’s Monkeys, the white colobus monkeys, the Angolan monkey and many more. Nyungwe also shows a unique phenomenon in primate tourism due to its high concentration of the habituated primates whose troops that include 400 to 500 individuals.

As one of the most important ornithological hubs in Rwanda, the park is also home to over 300 bird species, making it a bird watcher’s paradise. Along the way, we will also have a stop at the new visitor’s interpretive Centre to turn you to this magnificent park and then off to your hotel to check in and have lunch. In the afternoon, you spend it trekking to the Colobus Monkeys. You will hike through lush forests, endless, green tea fields and also take in the views of your surroundings.

Day 5: Enjoy chimpanzee trekking

Enjoy an early morning trek of chimpanzees and this will depend on the available time. We shall offer you a choice of value added activities from the following. You will participate in tea harvesting in the neighboring local communities. You will as well visit the tea factory and learn about the production process of one of the highest quality tea produced with in East Africa.

You will also visit the local artisan groups in order to learn and also participate in this and other local community income generating projects. This is also a chance to buy the locally made crafts and the products. You will listen to a presentation on the ecology of Nyungwe Forest National park and the conservation efforts including the managing of the dynamics and the co-existence of the park/ wildlife and the local communities.

Day 6: Transfer to Kibuye as you drive along the shores of Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu is also one of the great lakes in Africa and the largest of the fresh water lakes that glow in the albertine rift of the Great Rift Valley. This lake also stands at 1461m above the sea level inaugurating it as Africa’s highest Lake. The northern shore of the lake is also subject to the eruptions from the surrounding Mt Nyiragongo.

Kibuye is also Rwanda’s most attractive of the lake ports, located in many interwoven and rolling hills and then offers the visitors beautiful views of the lake, its islands and the spectacular surrounding countryside. It’s also considered one of Rwanda’s hidden treasures, with the lush green hills as well as the peaceful breeze.

Day 7: Visit the LÉsprerance Children Orphanage and the Village

You will have a visit to the L’ Esprerance Orphanage and the Children’s Village, and its located in Kigarama near the Kibuye that will give you a firsthand view of How large organizations and the donations  from individuals have helped this children’s Village to flourish and have funded many innovative projects in and around the Villages. You can then chose to spend the day there, and help out if possible or you can relax by the lake for the rest of the day.

Day 8: Drive to Gisenyi

In the morning, we will continue to the town of Gisenyi. With the waterfront and the sandy beaches as well as the fantastic views of Lake Kivu, Gisenyi is a wonderful place to relax. Having a feel of the tropical beach resort. Later in the afternoon, we will spend a relaxing and reenergizing time or we can offer you the choice of a value added activity as follows:

  • You will visit the springs and learn about the geographic makeup of the Virunga Volcanic chain.
  • You will also tour the local projects in the area and interact with project members
  • Visit the local artisans and the local women weaving association and see how your visit makes a big difference in their lives.

Day 9: Transfer to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village in Musanze district

Have a morning transfer to Musanze district where you will visit and then stay at the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village that is based in the community bordering Volcanoes National park. At this village, you will have a beautiful experience as you learn all about Rwandan traditions, culture, songs and dances. You can also participate in the local dances and the drumming, all as you ate wearing the traditional local “Umushanana” dress, the shooting arrows, attending a traditional healer’s medicine show you will also have an opportunity to sample the local food and the banana beer and also visit a local house hold or the school. More so, you will also chose to visit some of the local community projects and the co-operatives to see, how you travel with us contributes to making a difference in people’s lives.you will also spend the night here, in traditional houses and also pparticipate in Gitaramo, a cultural tradition of sharing stories, songs, and dance while sitting around a warm fire.

Day 10: Enjoy Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Have breakfast so early at the hotel and after report to the offices for the formal registration for the gorilla trek. After, you will be driven to Volcanoes National park were the trek will start escorted by the rangers. Gorilla tracking takes from 1 to 8 hours and seeing these endangered species is by chance. You will be given 1 hour to stay with them as you are accompanied by the park rangers who have spent all their lives living with these creatures with in the forest. This trek will be as exciting as you also go through the vines, giant lobelias, and the moss covered hagenia trees that grow in the tropical climate. Gorilla trekking is kinder active but worthwhile on meeting these gentle giants. The eagerness of your coming across with these apes will wipe away your complexity of the active trek. You spend time as you are watching the gorillas, view the adults feeding their yound ones, resting and brushing as the young ones play from vines in the pleasurably playful display.

Day 11: Enjoy Golden Monkey trekking

Golden Monkeys are the most endangered primates in Africa and is also endemic to the Albertine Rift. The Virunga Troop is the only viable species left. The young ones are also small fluffy and so playful so they are so enjoyable to be watched. These mainly live on the lower reaches of the park which makes the trek so short to find them. So when the trek is finally completed , we can then drive to the Virunga Lodge, have coffee/Tea as you enjoy the panoramic views of the twin lakes, Lake Butare and Lake Ruhondo as well as the Virunga Mountain chain.

Day 12: Transfer to Kigali, Do some shopping at Sina Gerard Urwibutso Project

Transfer to Kigali. You will have a stop in Nyiragarama for lunch and then have a chance to tour the Urwibusto Eco tourism project. This started in 1983, when the owner and Manager SINA Derard opened a small restaurant and the bakery at the location.Over many years, his business grew and it has been his mission since 1993 to become a leader in the production and the rocessing of the organic fruits as well as the vegetables in the area and in Rwanda. This enterprise also supports the local farmers and contributes to the social and economic development in the area, thus providing schools and education, hence creating jobs and opportunities, mostly for the women and training of the farmers. This has also made the community of Rulindo district one of the most sustainable communities in Rwanda and a very good role model to others.
